The Friends of Jefferson Barracks (FJB) founded in 1983 is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and improvement of Jefferson Barracks Park Historic Site in South St. Louis County, Missouri. The FJB members volunteer their time, energy, fundraising and other efforts to make this goal a reality. The Friends plays an active role in supporting St. Louis County Parks and Recreation at Jefferson Barracks Park through a wide variety of volunteer service projects and fundraising activities.
There are many opportunities for participating at events like the annual Easter Egg Hunt, JB Blast, Touch a Truck and other events. In addition, many members volunteer as Museum Attendants in the Old Ordnance Room and Powder Magazine, while some joined to volunteer in the Garden Club working throughout Jefferson Barracks Park.
The Friends also help in the Gift Shop located on the lower level of the Visitors Center (currently closed for renovations). Funds generated in the gift shop and at FJB supported events help to purchase historic artifacts, support historical exhibits and displays, and other services necessary to the operation of the park's historic buildings.
Fund raising is one of the important roles for the Friends organization to support the programs, exhibitions, museum collections and other needs of Jefferson Barracks Park Historic Site. This effort has contributed to a lengthy list of completed park projects such as the museum cannon mounts.
Another important project the Friends supported was for the restoration of the North Gate entrance to Jefferson Barracks Park. Learn more about how you can support us today!
